God wants to talk to you and me 24/7. Yes, even in our sleep! It's right there in your Bible. He wants to talk to us so much that He created us for that purpose. God loves our companionship!
"Prayer" is simply talking to God. It's easy. It's kind of like sitting down at a table in Starbucks with a friend while "chatting" and sipping Cappuccino.
Now, while we are "chatting" with God we not only should let Him how much we love Him, ( I mean you let you spouse and kids know, don't you?) but we also should, ask Him to give us our "daily bread" or meet our needs. Unlike no other god the Christian's God (the only true living God) has the ability to "supply all our needs according to His riches in Heaven".
Yet, despite this benefit, of praying or "chatting" with God, which of all God's creation only us humans enjoy, why does it seem at times that our prayers are of a “weak, wimpy kind” and we have no real powerful faith that our prayers are effective enough, or that we are worthy enough, to cause God to answer them?
I remember when I was a kid I heard a song the lyrics for which went something like this:
“Jesus is on the main line, so just call Him up and tell Him what you want.” Jesus on the main line, tell Him what you want. You can call Him up and tell Him what you want. His line ain’t never busy, tell Him what you want."
Now, I am older and when I think of those lyrics and how they relate to the principle of praying to the only true God, my God, and yours I pray, I can't help but also think of Paul Harvey. Yes, Paul Harvey the famous American radio broadcaster who used to tell us listeners "and now here's the rest of the story".
So it is with prayer. Are we such "slackers" that we think all we gotta do to get our prayers answered is just "drive-in" a "microwave" prayer to God. It just ain’t that easy! If this is the kind of prayers we pray to God I wouldn't be surprised if sometimes He might just be saying to Himself "whatever".
God's only Son, we're adopted you know-praise God, prayed hard and often. Remember the bracelets with "WWJD" on them? If Jesus Himself found it necessary to spend a llot of time praying to His Father, "who do we think we are" if we don't?
Check out these scriptures.
"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed."
"But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed."
"And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly: and His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground."
Yes, it's true that God can be on our "main line". He already knows what we want and need. But, what He wants and needs is for us to passionately, earnestly "chat" with Him-often. And yes, it's true God is never too busy to talk to us, but really we are never too busy to talk to Him-are we?
Thanks for talking with me. Until we talk again, remember
"Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition, definite requests, with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God."
